By 7, most children know whether they love football. Some are already playing for a grassroots team, some are just getting started, and some have their eye on an academy. Whichever it is, good training at this age looks much the same: lots of time on the ball, quick decisions and plenty of games.
What good training looks like at 7
- Lots of touches. Children improve fastest when they spend most of the session with a ball at their feet, not waiting in lines.
- Small-sided games. Fewer players means more time on the ball and more decisions to make.
- Both feet. Close control, turning and shooting with both feet.
- A match idea to work on. Passing, finding space and reading the game, introduced a little at a time.
- Fun. At 7, enjoyment is what keeps children coming back and improving.
Our Year 2+ classes
Our classes for Year 2 and up (ages 6 to 10) last 50 minutes and are led by our coaches. A typical session includes:
- a high-tempo start with lots of touches on the ball
- drills from the FSS syllabus that build on skills from earlier years
- small-sided games with a match idea to work on
- matches where players put it all together
Does it work alongside a grassroots team?
Yes. Whether your child has never played before, plays for a grassroots team or is in an academy, our sessions are pitched so they feel supported while still being challenged. Many children use our classes for extra time on the ball each week.
