The First Steps Soccer coaching team
Our coaches bring together decades of children's coaching, playing experience and a shared belief that young players learn best when they are enjoying the ball.

Mark · Joe · Charlie
Founder & Lead Coach
Mark founded First Steps Soccer in 2006 and is one of Bristol’s most experienced specialist coaches for children under ten.
He co-developed the FSS syllabus around ball mastery, movement and confident decision-making. Mark runs sessions at both Great Western Academy in Swindon, and at Sheldon School in Chippenham, whilst also having involvement in Bristol sessions and football parties.
Co-Founder & Head Coach
Joe brings thousands of hours working specifically with children aged 2–10, alongside a strong background as a junior player.
Before concentrating on coaching, Joe played Division A, County, Representative and Centre of Excellence football. Joe is the main coach for our Bristol sessions, running classes at Winterbourne Academy, Brunel Field Primary School, Trinity Academy and Southville Community Centre.
Coach & FSS Graduate
Charlie grew up around First Steps Soccer, has been through its developmental pathway as a young player and now has become an experienced coach.
Charlie has played Toolstation/Hellenic League football for Hallen and Almondsbury, and coaches or assists at nearly all venues in Bristol and Wiltshire.
Kingswood Lead Coach
Ben Davis has been part of First Steps Soccer for several years and leads our classes at Kingswood Holy Trinity Hall.
He has become a familiar face to families at the venue and an important part of the wider FSS coaching team.
